Founded in 1948 and led by Eric (Ric) Peth and Kurt Peth since 1990, Fowler & Peth (F&P) became the largest family-owned, value-added distributor of roofing and related exterior building products in the Rocky Mountain region. F&P distributes a comprehensive portfolio of products, which includes more than 7,000 SKUs in five different product segments via six locations in Colorado, two in Wyoming and one in Nebraska. Nearly half of the products sold by F&P are used exclusively for re-roofing or remodeling projects versus new construction activity. This has played an essential part in the company’s financial success over the years and more specifically during the most recent economic recession.
The founders of SLATE acted as the exclusive financial advisor to F&P, managing all aspects of the transaction process. F&P was a highly sought after asset; numerous companies and private equity groups were interested in acquiring the company. The industry, which has historically been highly fragmented, is in a period of rapid consolidation. Strong regional players like F&P are currently in a unique position to capitalize on this trend as industry giants like Beacon solidify their geographic positions.
When Fowler & Peth made the decision to sell the company, Beacon was seeking an acquisition with strategic fit and compatibility. F&P allows Beacon to expand its presence in the Denver market and to serve customers in the surrounding states, a key to Beacon’s westward expansion plans.
